2nd pregnancy - need advice

I just found out that I am pregnant w/ my 2nd child due early next year and went to my 1st obgyn work up visit. My first child was born by c-sec 9 mos ago due to failure to progress. I am 34 yrs old. Please advise: at this first visit, the dr. made no hesitation in recommending i consider a scheduled 2nd c-sec b/c of my situation: pregnancies too close together for recovery of uterus and does not recommend VBAC. Is it true that preg should be at least 1 year after the birth of 1st child to allow recovery time in considering a VBAC? Also dr. stated that size of pelvis seemed questionable as to the success of a VBAC.

I was disappointed in hearing this and feel that i should get a 2nd opinion on this. how should i proceed? I would want to try to have a VBAC but would like some additional advice/thoughts on this. Is it possible for VBAC and what are my chances of coming across problems such as uterine rupturing etc. Thank you for your advice.
