Re: Herbs and Marijuana

... and as a former college student & daughter-in-law of ex-hippies, I have seen and met a lot of people whose mothers smoked marijuana prior to conception... throughout pregnancy... and while breast feeding. My husband's mother smoked while preg with him, and he is as far from learning disabled as can be. I don't believe there has been any research proving that marijuana causes learning disabilities. I am not saying that every child who is raised in a marijuana smoking environment will go on to be a computer programmer with a six digit income... nor am I saying that knowing many who turned out well despite being raised in marijuana smoking environments means such things (learning disabilities) can never occur... but I do not believe any link between marijuana and learning disabilities has been proven.

Lauren, depending on who you ask, marijuana (with regular use) will stay in the body anywhere from two weeks to three months. It's stored in fat. If this was your first use in a while, and it was only three hits, I would say a week is pretty safe to assume it's totally out of your system... but since its potential to harm your baby is debatable, I think there are far more serious things one can be worrying about!

Can't say anything about the sage, though...

>>Natalie, the more important issue is that you are harming your baby by smoking dope while still nursing. I have never heard of using sage to help dry up milk supply. There's a lot in the archives about weaning, or you could call a local La Leche League. Pediatricians are also very helpful. Once you stop nursing ,the second hand smoke isn't going to do much for the baby either. Sorry for the lecture, but as a former kindergarten I saw a lot of learning disabilities that didn't need to happen.
