CPD?

Hi,

I recently underwent a pretty painful labor (14hrs) where I was told to start pushing but was not yet fully dilated. I then had to wait a bit and try again. At this time, when I would push the baby's heartrate would decelerate and then not accelerate quickly enough. Also, the baby passed meconium sometime during this time so the doctor put a vacuum extractor on his head to try and get him out quickly. I was at a +2 or +21/2 station at this time. This was not successful, so I had to have an emergency C-section. I would say the total time I spent pushing was 20 - 30 minutes; perhaps even less. I know that many women spend hours doing this!! This was also my first child.

I asked the doctor if I need to have another C-section if I have another child and he said most likely because the baby would not fit. I feel as though I could have done things better, like push harder or walk around during labor (I could not, it was too painful and I could only lie on my left side). I don't know if he is just saying this because it is easier to do, and also my hospital no longer performs VBAC's because they don't have a 24 hour anesthesiologist on staff.

I am just looking for a second opinion.

Thank you!
