Re: sports and pregnancyFrom: Melissa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 1 Jun 2002 15:06:19 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Linda, I am not a doctor, but I was very active in sports before pregnancy and remained as active as I safely could during my pregnancy (I'm now 39 weeks). When you are pregnant, you need to be careful not to get overheated during exercise, not to let your heart rate go too high, and to stay hydrated - you will need even more liquid than usual. The most important thing is to be careful not to fall or get hit while you are playing soccer. You will find that you won't be able to exercise at the same level you are currently used to, but you can still exercise safely. As always, check with your OB to be sure your sport and level of activity is safe during pregnancy. A great book to read is "Fit & Pregnant: The Pregnant Woman's Guide to Exercise" by Joan Marie Butler. It's the first book I read when I found out I was pregnant, and it was a huge help. I hope this information is helpful. -Melissa
