Past infection of Fifths Disease, currently pregnantFrom: Christy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 1 Jun 2002 10:35:56 -0500 (CDT)
I just received word from my ob that I have tested positive for a past infection of fifths disease (parvovirus) but have found no recent infection. I was exposed to someone in my office who did have the fifths disease infection during the first few weeks of being pregnant and my ob didn't feel it necessary to run a blood test at that time. During my second trimester (I was 15 weeks along) I requested the test be done and the results were as I listed above. My question is - had I taken the blood test earlier on in my pregnancy and it came back positive, what would have been the next step? Although I do not have a recent infection, could the past infection harm my unborn child?? Do I need to get a second opinion on this from another ob in the office? Should I be requesting any follow up testing? (bloodwork later in the pregnancy, ultrasounds, amnio, etc.) I am very concerned that I have had a past infection without knowing it and what harm that could have done to my unborn baby. Any and all advice from the doctors on this list would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for you time
-- Christy
