Normally, chromosomal screening just looks at the number of chromosomes and ensures that they all look normal. But you can have a normal array of chromosomes one or more of which may contain a defective gene. In that situation you will have a genetic disorder despite "normal" chromosomes (in reality, though, there is a defect in the chromosome, because a chromosome is made of genes, and one of the genes is messed up). Does that make sense?
