gestational diabetesFrom: Maya (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 31 May 2002 08:54:24 -0500 (CDT)
I had borderline gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy. My sugar levels were usually normal except if I ate a bigger meal with lots of starches, so I really had to control my diet. My baby was born healthy at 8 pounds 3 ounces. What can I do to prevent gd in my next pregnancy. I've lost 40 pounds (I was quite overweight ) and I swim 3 times a week. Will these new healthy changes in my lifestyle help avoid gd next time? My sugars are fine now no matter what I eat, although I am very careful with my diet. Nobody has diabetes in my family and I assume my blood sugar went up during my pregnancy because I was overweight Are people just naturally prone to gd or can it be avoided with weight loss and an active lifestyle?
