what should I be telling/asking her and requesting to have checked??
> Your situation sounds remarkably similar to mine. I was ttc for 6 months at 38, and my cycles were similar in pattern and length to yours. I had started making inquiries to my doc after my 7th failed cycle. He did a few blood tests, for stds, and something called ureaplasma. My ureaplasma test came back positive and it was treated by giving both my husband and I a course of azithromycin all at once (around four pills). The next month I got pregnant. That test is not a popular one with docs bc it is a pain to do and takes a few days to get results, but that infection has a huge negative impact on fertility. Insist on this test. Second, you should have your thyroid checked. Low thyroid is extremely common in women over 30 and also has a very negative effect not only on fertility, but can cause damage to a developing fetus. A few other things: try Robitussin (use as directed on bottle from day 9 of cycle thru fertile period), that was the other thing that I tried for the first time that month I got pregnant (for details, see the archives on this board). Also, another over-35 Mom suggested having intercourse every other day during fertile period, rather than every day or every 36hrs, as they tell you on the OPKs. (Gives over-35 dad's sperm time to replenish itself.) I tried it for the first time that "lucky" month, too. Finally, if none of this works, you _should_ get your husband checked. It's a completely non-invasive test and it could spare you a lot of physical pain and agony. Don't know which of these helped, but it's worth a try. Best of Luck,
