Janel,

while it is more natural to deliver the placenta in the same way you delivered your child, there are times when the uterus is not contracting normally, or some other medical issue is immediate and the doctor will have to take the placenta out manually. i can not speak as to whether it was medically warrented in your case, but it is not unusual to have to physically remove the placenta.

i am sorry you had to have a hysterectomy.
