Re: reconstructive surgery post partumFrom: Nadine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 23 May 2002 15:06:30 -0500 (CDT)
Hello. Starting down the road to some reconstructive surgery after delivering a 10 pd baby vaginally in Dec. Stage 3 cystocele. Stage 2 rectocele. Some urinary stress incontinence. Needing to splint. Apparently some muscle damage from Stage 4 tear. Tear did not heal well and have gaping. Need some labia reconstruction as well. BOth labia tore during childbirth. One side did not adhere. I have consulted with a urogynecologist who suggested he would like to do TVT surgery with cadaver graft. This is new surgery. 4 years. What is the success rate and what is the downside? Is this what is most current and most docs out there doing? For the perineal reconstruction is there a risk of damage to sphincter muscles and fecal incontinence and how great is that risk? (this terrifies me. I'd rather keep what i have) How long would the doctors out there generally wait to do this kind of surgery? ANy downside to waiting? Any suggestions as to some of the questions I should ask the docs as I do more research? Anything I should be aware of? Thanks for your advice. Nadine
