I think that your doctor actually meant that he was able to rule out about 80% of your potential for having a Down's baby, that being the proportion of Down's that have U/S markers. That would make your risk about 1/800 or thereabouts. You don't really need the genetic counseling until the results of your amnio are available, though many of us do it first, to try and reassure the patient. I guess your sit down with him will be when the results are available.
