airplanes - high altitude ?From: Stella (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 20 May 2002 22:16:06 -0500 (CDT)
I am 21 weeks pregnant. My husband and I are both private pilots and we own a small plane. We live in the Rocky Mountains and typically fly at around 12,000 ft and as high as 15,000 in an unpressurized plane. We only fly occasionally and usually 2.5-hour legs. We bought an oxygen system that I can wear when we're flying, so I'm not concerned about the baby and I getting enough air. But I wonder if the warnings that I read about pregnant women not going over 10,000 feet are only about oxygen or if the pressure changes, etc could cause a problem for the baby. Thanks for any advice or thoughts.
