After three preemies I took it when an exam found me to be dilating at 30 weeks. It gave me a resting ht rate of 140. Procardia was added. I hated it, but kept a pic of my sickest preemie on the fridge to remind me. I went off it at 37 weeks. And went almost three weeks longer. So much for "most likely within 24 hours..." The next pregnancy I went on it again. Within two weeks I made the hard decision that I already had several small children who needed a mommy and to not be destroyed by the monster woman that the meds turned me into. I worked HARD on staying hydrated, limiting activity, etc, but a mommy who cant get off the couch but who can hold her children and actually read a book without losing it proved much better for us. I would not take the meds again. BTW the pregnancy that I went off the meds and worked so hard at staying on top of uterine activity and limiting on feet activity went to 39w5d, longer than any other.

No one can make decisions like this for you, you have to weigh what this is doing to you and your family VS what possibly having a preemie would do. Neither are easy situations, neither are guaranteed to be without self doubt later. But I know that for me and my family, I could not take them any longer and we were willing to make other sacrificed such as bedrest in order to stay off of them. (and FWIW I am not convinced they are worth anything anyway and it looks like studies are now bearing this out)

My sickest baby was a 35 weeker. But she was not my earliest. Matters were complicated far more by her GBS sepsis than by her 'prematurity'. MY 33 weeker did great! So there is no way to tell, each baby is different and there are other factors to be considered.
