Hi Beth, with my 3rd child (who's name is also Beth) I went into premature labor at 35 weeks, after having had horrible BH contractions for weeks on end. I was dialated 3 centimeters at that time. I was hospitalized for 3 days and was given Brethine. That has got to be the most disturbing medication. At least for me it was. I felt like my heart was pounding half out of my chest and it made me very short of breath, but the babe was only measuring about 2 lbs. at that time and docs felt it unsafe to risk labor. Went home on the Brethine for 2 days and bed rest and told the doc I could not take the Brethine anymore. I felt like I was having a continuous panic attack. They took me off of it and told me the babe would probably come before the weekend was over (this was a Friday) but she held on for 5 weeks total and was only born a week early. I cannot recommend that you stop taking it and I am not a medical professional, but I do sympathize with your situation and sometimes birth can hold out longer than expected, but there's really no way to know. I am not aware of any dangers in taking this medication, but make sure you let your doc know how horrible it makes you feel. If it's tollerable, give the little one a fighting chance, but if youjust can't take it, let them know. I wish you all the best, my prayers are with you.
