Pregnancy HCGs and Sono, Viable??From: Abby (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 14 May 2002 12:40:36 -0500 (CDT)
Hi! I'm 34 with positive pregnancy test. LMP - April 13. My cycle is every 28 days, like clockwork. sex without protection on April 22, and at least once after that with a condom about a week later. Positive home pregnancy test on May 10. Called Doc for some cramping on the 5/12, and he was concerned it was ectopic so had me come in for an exam, beta and sono. Exam fine, beta at 7025 which they said was good number (the lab range said it could be anwhere from 500 to 10,000 for that timeframe), but during the sono (which was done before the beta) all they saw was a 4mm fluid filled sac that could be a pregnancy, maybe ectopic, but less likely. My next beta was today and came back at 8514. Doc says it's not rising appropriately and because there was nothing in the sac with such a high initial number (7025) there is no baby there and it is highly likely that it is ectipic. He would like to treat with methatrexate. Since I'm not actively in pain, and my hct number he says is good and shows no internal bleeding, said I could wait until my husband gets back from business trip to get shot, unless the pain comes back. My question is, now that I'm waiting, is this, to you, truly an ectopic? Any chance I might still be carrying a baby? The pain is gone and I still feel pregnant -- morning sickness just starting, sensitive breast, urge to pee. I've done this baby thing 3 times before and I really feel pregnant. Please help if you can as I'll be seeing my doc again this Friday or Monday for the shot of methatrexate. Thanks, Abby
