2nd percentile?????From: kimberly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 13 May 2002 17:05:35 -0500 (CDT)
i have a baby (now almost 29wks)who has been monitored closely via u/s throughout my pregnancy (due to hx of a stillborn and insulin dependent diabetes-dx'd at 6wks pg). a perinatologist did the last u/s and said the baby was small-about 2lbs at 27wks, was asymmetrical (abdomen further behind other measurements), but otherwise appeared normal.the baby had gained about 10oz from the previous u/s done at my regular ob's office 2 wks previous. today i returned to my reg ob office for another u/s (12 days post perinatologist) and the baby didn't seem to gain as much-he now weighs 2lbs 4oz. my question is twofold. first, the tech who did the u/s today said the baby was in the 2nd percentile but was still within normal range. is this possible? i mean, at what point do they consider the baby out of normal range? it seems to me we can't go much lower. second, do you think the variable weight gain could have to do with 2 different facilities performing the u/s's? i'm concerned b/c my stillbirth occured at 29 1/2 weeks and she had iugr as well though we had no idea until she was born. thank you so much for any information you can provide.~kimberly
