lost plug.....could it be doctor's fault?

Hi. I have not been too sure of my doctor's partner that comes in to take his place every once in a while when my actual doctor is in delivery. My last visit this last Wednesday, this partner of his told me I was 36 weeks, (My doctor says 38/39) But when I went, he said they had lost my chart and he had to do another exam of my uterus, not the Pap, but while he was doing it, a pain shot straight through me and I could not even sit up when he was done. I laid there about 5-6 minutes before I could get up. Then after I got back home, 2 hours later my plug had broke. I called the hospital and they said there was no need to come in, that it was normal. So I didn't but I can't stop wondering why my plug would have broke after this tremendously painful exam. The first one I had done, a week prior to that one was fine...no pain at all. Did he do something to me to cause this to happen? Please shed some light on this for me. I appreciate any responses.
