35 weeks with left side pain. Could this be a kidney stone?

I have been experiencing this pain on my lower left side of my back. The pain sometimes radiates toward the left side of my abdomen. This has been happening on and off for just over two weeks. I mentioned it to my Dr a few weeks ago and he suggested that it may be some sort of nerve compression. Beginning at about 5pm yesterday, I was in such severe pain that I needed my husbands help to walk to the restroom and back. I got a little sleep, but still woke up in pain this morning. Feeling very frustrated, I went to labor and delivery at around 7am. They monitored me for about an hour....I never saw my doctor, they only spoke with him on the phone. They released me without any further evaluation, with a prescription for Darvacet for pain. I'm feeling a little better this afternoon, but I know it's only a matter of time before this pain comes back. It really is quite severe.

Could this really be nerve compression? Is it possible that it's a kidney stone or something else? There has been no blood in my urine or kidney infection that I'm aware of. I'm almost 36 weeks and I can't imagine going till my due date in this much pain.

Thanks for any input!
