Any pregnancy book in a store will tell you that. So would the routine blood test all pregnant women are supposed to get. The fact is, ladies, that a good OB knows to check blood type as well as the back of their own hands. It's common knowledge and routine, like checking urine for protein at every visit. Katie, I'm glad you were not sensitized. And LaDonna, I hope that you have spoken with your OB about having told you one Rhogam shot in your life was enough. That is seriously suspicious advice from a MD. It also put you at risk for some possibly, nasty sensitization in the future. The shot is typically given at 28 - 29 weeks because it's supposed to carry you through the rest of the pregnancy (shot is "good" for 3 months -- although a very small percentage of women will become sensitized regardless of the shot). Then after delivery you get another shot. Unless the shot is administered within 72 hours of maternal-fetal blood cross it's useless.
