Re: induction and cholecystectomyFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 Apr 2002 15:29:38 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I'm not a doctor, but I can certainly sympathize with you. My whole last trimester with my third pregnancy I had a gall bladder attack at least a few times a week. The pain was unbearable and lasted all night long. Since most of my attacks seemed to happen at night, my ob agreed to induce me on my due date, I knew I couldn't handle going into labor during a gall bladder attack so I wanted to do it on my terms. The induction went great and 8 miserable weeks later I finally had my surgery. I had to wait so long because I was nursing my son and wanted to make sure I had my milk supply well established before being away from him for surgery. Sometimes I wish I would not have waited as the first 8 weeks of my son's life I was completely miserable. I'm not sure about whether a surgeon would take it out so soon after delivery, you'd need to go for a consultation with a surgeon and discuss it. I'm sure a lot depends on how your delivery goes. The surgery itself is not too bad. I had my surgery at 11AM and by 7PM I was home. I was encouraged to stay overnight in the hospital, but since I was nursing my son I elected to go home. I was quite sore for several days, so I'm not sure you'll want that on top of being sore from the delivery, but if your attacks are bad enough it might be worth it. Unfortunately I had to go back two months later and have another stone out that they missed, but since then I've been pain free and loving it. Good luck!
