Dear Katie:

I also had a miscarriage at 8 weeks and did not receive Rhogam. I was not sensitized when this occurred because I successfully became pregnant and gave birth to my daughter 4 years ago. Somehow during the birth of my daughter however I did become sensitized. I did receive Rhogam correctly but for some reason it did not work. This only happens .06% of the time. I am currently pregnant 35w3d with my son. Even though I am sensitized this is only my first sensitized pregnancy and therefore the risks are lower for fetal death. My pregnancy has been monitored very closely. I have weekly ultrasounds and will be having my 4th amnio on Monday to monitor his condition. We plan on delivering him on May 20th!! RH issoimmunization is very rare. Once you have the blood test hopefully you will find that you were not sensitized. If you are however, don't fear the worst. There is wonderful information at http://www.rarediseases.org. You also may want to have your husband tested, a simple blood test, to see what antibodies he has in his blood and if he is a heterozygos or homozygos male and to determine what antibodies he has in his blood. My husband has 4!! Rhogam only protects against the D antibody. I was exposed to D and C when I had my daughter. I hope this helps. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
