induction and cholecystectomy

An ultrasound confirmed I have "quite a few" gall stones. I have had 3 gall bladder attacks in 3 weeks. I am 38 weeks pregnant and have been severely nauseated throughout my pregnancy. (zofran pump, reglan, et al) In fact, I lost 30 lbs and have not quite gained them back.

I told my doc I'd like to have the gall bladder out ASAP. So, she has scheduled an induced labor at 39 weeks.

She also is trying to get the general surgeon to take out the gall bladder the first postpartum day.

Unfortunately, my doctor has said weird things like - you could have it removed while you have your epidural. I told her I thought that an epidural wouldn't numb me high enough for a gall bladder surgery. "Oh, that's right..." she said. For this reason (and others) I'm left with little confidence in her opinions.

Question 1: Is this a valid reason for an induction at 39 weeks? Question 2: Do you think a general surgeon would be willing to remove the gall bladder the first post partum day? (If there seems to be no infection or immediate serious risk to me or the baby) Question 3: If the surgeon will, do you think it is advisable to have it done so soon?

Thanks for any insight you can provide! Ann (I'm 28. This is my first pregnancy.)
