Re: Pediatrician Interviews?From: anonymous@obgyn.netMon, 29 Apr 2002 18:51:03 -0500 (CDT)
At our hospital, the OB does the circumcision, not the pediatrician, so you might want to check on that first. Also, I would ask about sick visits vs well visits. At one office I went to, they had "open" hours set for "sick" visits--an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. It was first come, first serve if your child was sick (one or two doctors saw the sick kids that day). So, if your child is sick, you don't have to call and make an appointment, you just go at the sick visit designated time. At another practice, you just call if your kid is sick and they see you that day (whoever is available if your regular doctor isn't there). Some practices have the nurse call you back if you have a question, some have nurses designated as the phone nurse, so they answer your call right away. A lot of practices in our area have a brochure for the office that outlines this sort of stuff. In the end, I go with convenience of the office (you might think driving 25-30 doesn't seem like a big deal til you have to drive with a kid throwing up or crying the whole way there and back), the comfort level you feel with the doctor/staff, and the way they conduct "business." And, if you are not happy, you can always switch!
