Ultrasounds are not as accurate in late pregnancy as they are earlier on. I've also heard that the weights could be off by a lb or 2, however, that's not always accurate. An u/s at 36wks on my little sister said that the baby was going to be over 9lbs based on the measurements, but at birth, he was only 5lbs 6oz!! That's a HUGE difference. (though I'm sure that's not common to be off that much) He was a longer baby for his weight, so we are thinking that is where the mistake came from. Avg weight gain I believe for a baby in the last weeks is a half a lb per week, so if you figure that, baby would be around 8-8 1/2lbs.
