Is amoxycillin safe in early pregnancy?

Hi, I am 4 and half weeks pregnant, and I have a bad kidney infection with WBC's in my urine (70 when it says the normal is 0-5) and a distinct trace of albumin, and kidney pain. My doctor prescribed me Amoxicillin (That is the composition by the way, not the brand name).

But I have a friend who is a doctor and he told me it is not safe to take this early. He suggested I wait 5-6 days and see if the infection will go by itself.

My question is : is amoxicillin safe to take this early? Or is it a good idea to leave the infection as it is? And my other question, is when to stop taking it? I can't reach my doctor until another 10 days.

Thanks
