Re: 36 weeks/5 days, please tell me when it's safe to go into labor!!From: Jenniffer (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 8 Apr 2002 15:41:02 -0500 (CDT)
Thank you for being a voice of reason re:what is full term. Inductions are the norm these days, and unfortunately for comfort or convenience. As our medical advances continue, will we see a trend towards "full term" being earlier in pregnancy? Two of my children were born at their due dates. My middle child was born at 37 weeks and developed severe Pulmonary Hypertension and spent the first three weeks of his life in the NICU. I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone so I gently try to remind women that the baby will be born, and to please be patient! My children were all the products of healthy pregnancies and totally natural births (no drugs, no Pit, etc). It can happen to anyone, so why increase the risk? I say, let those babies stay in at least until 42 weeks barring any complications (GD, Toxemia). Given the chance, don't they usually come out on their own? ;)
