Re: pregnant after miscarriage and now spottingFrom: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 6 Apr 2002 22:28:15 -0600 (CST)
Hello Shereen, Here's some hope - I spotted at 7 and 9 weeks, and am now 3 weeks away from my due date. I have never had a miscarriage, so I cannot completely relate to your anxiety, but I do know how scared and hopeless I felt when I was spotting during this pregnancy after a completely normal 1st pregnancy. I too have been told conflicting stories from my docs - just two weeks ago one of my docs told me that any bleeding indicates that the body is trying to miscarry. HOWEVER - at the time that it was occurring, my other docs told me that there are all kinds of reasons spotting can occur in early pregnancy: mild placental bleeds, implantation bleeding, irritations of the cervix (from intercourse), etc. I had normal ultrasounds at 7 and 9 weeks, my hcg counts were good, and the pregnancy continued normally and - by all indications - my baby is completely healthy. I did stay on pelvic rest from 7 weeks until the end of the first trimester - when they took me off I spotted again at 9 weeks, so better safe than sorry) I read on several different web sites that some significant percentage of women experience spotting early on (like 20% to 30%) and of those women well over half go onto term. Check the archives on this board and http://www.parentsplace.com. I know you won't fully relax until you hold that baby in your arms, but you still have EVERY reason to hope that the pregnancy will continue to term. Good luck, and all my best wishes for a boring pregnancy from here on out.
