Enlarged thyroid at 36 weeks pregnant?

Hello,

I am currently 36 weeks pregnant. Today my daughter's pediatrician mentioned to me (during my daughter's appointment) that it looked like I have an enlarged thyroid, and that I should ask my midwife to check it out because it could be dangerous for me and my baby. I have checked the archives, but could not find specific information about thyroid disorders that develop during pregnancy. I have never been diagnosed with a thyroid condition, although my mother had hers removed and suffers from the symptoms of hypothyroidism. I have an appointment tomorrow, but my m/w office is notoriously slow about getting lab results, so I was just looking for any preliminary information about the possible risks of having an enlarged thyroid at this stage of pregnancy. If it matters, I am 6' tall, 30 years old, and have gained about 30 lbs at 36 weeks (although I was about 20 lbs overweight to start.)Both my pregnancies have been relatively uneventful, although I am still waiting on the results of a bile salt test to r/o obstetric cholastasis (history of gallbladder sludge, and a bad rash beginning at 34 weeks - it's been 2 weeks and still don't know the results!)

Thanks for any information you can pass on!
