Re: ? for those of you with home dopplersFrom: AM (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 4 Apr 2002 10:28:34 -0600 (CST)
I, too, wouldn't be too concerned, especially given your recent u/s. I am a few pounds overweight, and they had trouble finding my baby's heartbeat at 10 weeks using a pretty sensitive doppler at my midwife's office. She said I have a higher placed pubic bone than some women, and that my fundus was still behind this bone making it difficult to hear. Also, I have a retroverted uterus which makes it even harder to locate the heartbeat. At 11 weeks, she found the heartbeat, but she had to do a manual exam and physically move my uterus up towards my tummy in order to hear it. Any or all of these factors might mean that it will be a few weeks before you can hear the hb at home. When you look for it, you should be placing the doppler just above your hair line. This early in pregnancy the baby is still very, very low. Good luck!
