It is required for the ovualtory event, needed for the rupture of the follicle and expulsion of the ovum.

Mittleschmirtz-mid cycle, ovulatory pain. Because of above. Reason why you should not tatke NSAIDs if you are trying to conceive. They will block prostaglandin production.
