My personal nightmare: THIRD miscarriageFrom: Caroline (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 30 Mar 2002 21:33:15 -0600 (CST)
I'm three weeks shy of 40 years old and just learned I had my third miscarriage within one year. First two were conceived naturally and lost at eight weeks due to chromosomal abnormalities: Trisomy 21 and 22. The most recent was conceived through IVF, which we did only because we were hoping to do preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). There were not enough viable embryos to do PGD so we took our chances and transferred two embryos that I was told were "optimal." I was pregnant, but my Beta levels did not rise as they should have, and I was told this would not be a viable pregnancy. (It went from 141 to 328 to 469 to 699 from one Friday to the next.) Any chance this could still work? And if not, will I just bleed it out? More important: Can my inability to maintain a pregnancy have anything to do with: 1. Tripping on LSD more than 20 times in college, between 1980 and 1982; and/or 2. Having been diagnosed with gonorrhea and genital warts twice in college. Thank you.
