Rising HCG Levels After Incomplete Miscarriage

On 2/10, I ovulated via Follistim. Conception date was 2/12, preg test on 2/27 and HCG at 25. On 3/1, HCG was 31 and my DR expected me to miscarry. Several weeks later, I had absolutely no spotting/cramping. My DR continued to test HCG and it was increasing, not doubling. On 3/7 HCG was 283; on 3/12 HCG was 1229. On 3/13, I had an u/s and was diagnosed with a blighted ovum. My doctor still expected me to miscarry. After another week, no spotting. Repeat HCG on 3/18 was 5504. Repeat HCG on 3/20 was 5875 and u/s same day at 5 weeks confirmed blighted ovum, although my DR thought he saw "possible yolk sac."

After asking my DR about the possibility of normal pregnancy, I was told there was zero chance for it. I consulted with my OB-GYN for a second opinion and confirmed that the u/s should be considered with HCG. On my DR's advice, I took 2 Cytotec on 3/21. On 3/22, my HCG was 5400 and u/s showed an incomplete miscarriage. I had a repeat HCG on 3/27 and my HCG went up to 7643!! An u/s on the same day still showed something in my uterus.

What is going on with me? My DR says he expects the levels to begin dropping in a week. How much longer should this continue? I am unable to heal at all. My DR doesn't recommend a D&C. Should I seek a 2nd opinion? I'm beginning to lose trust in my doctor's care and feel very distraught.

Thanks for any help or advice.
