Re: In need of a Breast PumpFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netFri, 29 Mar 2002 21:45:17 -0600 (CST)
I agree and after 2 children nursed for over 18 months each I used my pump a total of 9 times. I simply didn't go anywhere without an infant in tow until they were 9 months old and could have solids and a sippy cup when I wasn't around. The best pumps are made by Medela (they are expensive) however they are the best at pumping without causing pain for the mom as they have adjustable suction and mimick the baby's sucking. They are made as both manual and electric pumps (the manual ones are cheaper - they even make a foot operated double pump). I left the hospital with a free Medela manual pump (worth about $20 - just have your freind ask the OB nurses, if that does not work try the NICU nurses as all their patient's moms have to pump). Just a thought that the money spent on a pump if required is a lot less than the $2000 required to give an infant formula. Pumps can be reused by different women. The parts that are in contact with mom and the milk are plastic and can easily be sterilized or replaced. Nancy
