Macrobid in the third trimester

I have now reached my third trimester, and I read it is a category D.

With that said, my dr. and others have said that it is really not a problem to continue taking it vs. another antibiotic.

Can you tell me the reason it is a category D? I forgot the reason, but my doc makes it sound like it is something rare.

I believe he plans on keeping me on it til like 32 weeks or so....

Can you give me your opinion on this regimen, and if you would switch a patient at this point?
