Ulcerative Colitis and Pregnancy...From: Julie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 22 Mar 2002 21:48:44 -0600 (CST)
HI there, I am a 38 year old woman (only 38 as of 2 days ago!)and 9 weeks pg. I have UC and am on maintenance therapy with mesalamine suppositories (500mg 2 x per day). My Dr. told me that the risk of mesalamine in pg is very small to none, while the risk of active UC is very high. My question is this...sometimes I still do suffer mild inflamation and a little rectal bleeding (even while I am on the medication). Is this dangerous to my baby? Also, would there be some reason I might not be able to deliver vaginally due to this condition? Thank you for your help!
