Re: 'Secretly' charting, any suggestions?From: anonymous@obgyn.netWed, 20 Mar 2002 15:02:49 -0600 (CST)
Fadette - I think it's great that you want to start charting. It's a great way to learn more about your body (whether you are TTC or not). I charted for six months before TTC, and then got pregnant on the second try! I was also one of those people who were very regular, but your window of ovulation opportunity is pretty small, so every bit helps. It will also be a great help in increasing those "non-condom" opportunities. However, I highly recommend the Toni Weschler book, "Taking Charge of your Fertility". It's wonderful, and really explains how to do it correctly. (Which is very important if you're going to use it as a form of birth control.) And I agree with the previous submitter about being up-front with your husband. All the books I've read have been very clear that it's important to do it first thing - before you get out of bed, before you sit around chit-chatting on the phone, etc. And it's also important to take it at the same time everyday (or discount those days when you missed your 6am alarm.) If you've already talked about TTC after he graduates, then this "prep time" shouldn't bother him. And to address one of your other comments. A friend of mine was charting for six months while TTC, but wasn't getting pregnant. She was able to take these charts into the Fertility Specialist, and start right away on making a plan, as opposed to him telling her to chart for another six months and then come back. Good luck!
