Re: 'Secretly' charting, any suggestions?From: LeeAnne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 16 Mar 2002 10:00:25 -0600 (CST)
For most women digital thermometers may not be accurate enough, I would get a basal. There are differing recommendations. I guess alot would depend on how sensitive your body is to the activity level. When I began charting I would get up, go to the bathroom and take the temp while...ahem...using the facilities and putting in my contacts. Nothing vigorous like brushing hair or teeth or cleaning. I saw a pretty definitive temp pattern doing this. (just make sure not to drink right away.) After we had our baby and I was nursing and resuming fertility my temp shifts were much less predictable and discernable and I found that unless I remained in bed to take the temps I didnt see a shift of oany kind. So...I would see no harm in trying to take it unobtrusively after you get up and go to another room, just be aware you may need to change. If you find you need to stay in bed, what I did was set the alarm for about 30 minutes before my husband would be getting up and take it while he was still asleep then use the next 25 minutes or so enjoying the quiet before he and the kazillion kids woke up. WOrked for us! BTW...enjoy this time. It is exciting to be approaching the culmination of yor dreams and goals, both academically and family wise. I find it commendable that you would support his needs in this way.
