Re: 'Secretly' charting, any suggestions?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 15 Mar 2002 15:47:21 -0600 (CST)
Hi there — I too have a husband who is completinga Phd. Boy do I know what that is about. A couple of months ago we had a HUGE fight about him wanting to hold off on ttc until a year from now. I wouldn't mind, except I'm 38. I don't have a year to wait around. But, in answer to your question: 1) tell him you plan to chart for 6 months or so to get a feel for your cycle and you can use charting as birth control until you're ready. Besides it really takes several months to get the hang of it, so that wouldn't be unreasonable to do at all. 2) If you don't want him to know you're charting at all....if you ALWAYS take your temperature at the same time when you get up and go to the bathroom, you would still see a pattern, (though probably not as accurate.) However, you'd have to consistently take your temp in that manner. One thing worth noting — I noticed that my day time temps went up after ovulation so for a couple of months I took my temps every afternoon at the same time just to see if the temps correlated, and sure enough I showed just about the same pattern only 1-2 degrees higher. I know that is HIGHLY unorthodox and not at all how you'd chart for birth control, but just thought I'd mention that my day temps show the same bi-phasic pattern as my morning temps. Good luck.
