This decreases the number of birth defects almost back to level found in non-diabetics. Being overweight increases complications whether diabetic or not. If one looks at all women who weigh at least 250 during their pregnancy, over 50% of tehm will need to have a cesarean delivery. The heavier the patient, the higher the complication rate from cesarean or any surgery for that matter.
