Post Partum BleedingFrom: Trudy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 14 Mar 2002 20:20:00 -0600 (CST)
I gave birth 8 1/2 weeks ago and I am still having some bleeding. It seemed to have stopped for 2 or 3 days during week 7 but has resumed. The bleeding is heavier than spotting but not as heavy as a period -- I find that wearing a pantyliner is sufficient. It varies in colour from bright red to pink to brownish red. At my 8 week check-up I mentioned to my doctor (Family doctor not OBGyn) that I am still having some bleeding. He did not seem concerned but said that if it continues we may need to think about a D&C. How much longer should I wait? Or should I just schedule an appt with my OBGyn? Also, I am breast-feeding exclusively. Sometimes I give the baby a bottle of expressed milk but I always pump to try to maintain the supply. I have found that my supply fluctuates -- for two or three days I experience engorgement; then I have two or three normal days; and then I have two or three days where I have a very diminished supply and I can only pump a little. Is this normal? Could it be related to the ongoing bleeding? Thanks for your help!
