Re: anticardiolipin antibodies

Hiya...

I tested positive for ACLA, too, after a second trimester loss. My original test was a 60, with a lab value of over 11 being positive. I was tested every three months for the next two years. By 9 months after the loss (when I was 5 months pregnant again), I was negative for the antibodies, and have never ever tested postive again. I have been tested over and over again ( I am not exagrerrating when I say I have had at least 10-15 tests).

I am currently pregnant with my third baby post loss- at 32 weeks, and still negative. My doctors (and I have an amazing bunch of them), have never been able to fully explain the transient positive or why it went away and stayed away. There are a few known viruses, childhood illnesses mostly, that can cause transient spikes in ACLA, and that has ben the consensus from my doctors in my case, althoug, it is still a "we don't know for sure"....

I was treated with heparin and aspirin during a pregnancy, but had excessive bleeding, so it was stopped at 24 weeks (the heparin), and I stayed on the aspirin until delivery ( a healthy boy). My following two pregnancies have been untreated, but very, very closely monitored (one healthy girl, waiting on the boy).

I had a rheumatologist tell me the rule was once a positive, always a positive (meaning you would always be treated as a positive, regardless of your titer), but my doctors have chosen close surveillance instead, due to the persistent negativity.

How may tests have you had, and what is your doctor's plan of action?
