Licorice in very, very large amounts, can have some estrogen like effects on the body. If you go to herbalist's pages, and contraindicated herbs in pregnancy, you can quite often find licorice listed, for that reason.

I would imagine, though, to get that kind of a dosage, we'd be talking about huge amounts of licorice- not a lozenge or hard candy, or even a bag of licorice sticks.

I remember reading that on several different pregnancy sites, as well as on an herbal page (when I was looking up safe ingredients to drink in tea during pregnancy).

You know, sometimes, you think it's just be easier to sit in a plastic bubble, and have an iv drip of the necessary nutrients for 9 months than to just think about all the potential no-nos lurking, everywhere- even the candy store.... ;-)
