Re: Do BAD pregnancy dreams always come true? From: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 12 Mar 2002 13:46:34 -0600 (CST)
NO! Pregnant dreams RARELY come true - I promise! With my daughter, I had all manner of bizarre dreams while pregnant, including that I left her in the shower overnight. Needless to say, that didn't happen. The only "true" dream I had with that pregnancy was the dream that she was a girl. I am now 33 weeks pregnant, and have had terrible graphic dreams about miscarriage, birth defects, early delivery etc. Oh, also that I gave birth to a giant sea turtle instead of a baby. NONE of those have come true - I didn't miscarry, the ultrasound did not reveal the kind of birth defect I dreamt about (and this would have been VERY obvious), and I didn't deliver at the time I dreamt I would. Incidentally, I also dreamed this baby was a girl and I was dead wrong! The only true dream I had with this one was that I did get a + on the home pregnancy test although sad to say, Ben Affleck is not the father in real life as he was in my dream! Dreams are just a way of surfacing our deepest fears, concerns etc. They illustrate and make visible all the internal dialogue that plays in our subconcious throughout the day. If you are in fact pregnant, you will likely experience all kinds of bizarre dreams - I think there is a physiological explanation for this. I do believe in - and have experienced - "true" dreams, but these are very rare. Incidentally, I had implantation bleeding with both my pregnancies - with this one it was just a spot but with my daughter I thought it was my period. Also with this pregnany I had spotting at 7 and 9 weeks. It is possible that you are pregnant and that you might still bleed a little but carry the baby to term nonetheless. Good luck, and I hope in this case all your dreams DON'T come true!
