4 weeks postpartum and episiotomy stitches are still in???From: Jenn (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 10 Mar 2002 20:06:58 -0600 (CST)
I am 4 weeks postpartum and had a 2nd degree episiotomy and tear. I was told in the hospital by the nurses that they were disolving stitches. Ive been a little sore still at the episiotomy site (just feel a slight sting on occasion) so I had my husband check too make sure it wasnt swollen or infected, which it doesnt appear too be. To our surprise the stitches are still there. He said there are two of them and they are white. He tried too see if they were just loose ends left but the knot is still there too and it stung a bit when he pulled at it. Am I wrong or are disolving stiches supposed too disolve in about 10 days? Is there a chance the Dr intended too use regular stitches and remove them at 6wk followup? If they do need too be removed...will it do any harm in waiting a couple weeks till my PP appointment or should I call sooner. Thanks, Jenn
