do you have PCOS or just the prolatin issue? metformin combined with clomid has been shown to have success. however, to be honest i have never heard of it having an effect that quickly. i began in it jan 1999 because i have PCOS and insulin resistance. i had never started my period on my own. i stayed on 1500mg/day for 2 years and get both the PCOS and IR under control. i started my period naturally in jan of 2001 and became pregnant without any further intervention in Nov of 2001. that said, had i combined it with something to induce a period and clomid, i probably would have conceived sooner.

the way your doctor is having you ramp up the medication is common. you should take met with food. i took it in the middle of meals. it can have some gastric side effects, sometimes mild, sometimes severe. they usually subside in a few weeks and taking it with food will lessen them. also, controlling the amount of carbohydrates you consume while on the medication you can help to keep the effects mild. make sure you drink plenty of fluids in case you do have the loose stools associated with taking the med.

hope this helps..and good luck!

love, paula
