ITP (doctors please)From: anonymous@obgyn.netFri, 8 Mar 2002 22:49:25 -0600 (CST)
I was just diagnosed with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura this week and I am approx 28 weeks pregnant. I had been having bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums etc for the the last 12 weeks. I had my blood drawn a few days ago and my platelet level came back as low critical 10,000. My platelet count at the start of pregnancy was completely normal. I have been getting IVIG and Prednisone this week and my level is coming back up now. I have done some reading on this but was wondering what the outcome might be for the baby. Also, my doctor mentioned a good chance of having a c-section due to possible trauma to the baby with a vaginal delivery. Have any of the doctors out there managed patients with this disorder during pregnancy and if so was the outcome good? I am really worried. Thanks
