elevated blood pressure in very early pregnancyFrom: AM (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 1 Mar 2002 12:22:10 -0600 (CST)
I found out we're expecting on Valentines day, after many anxious questions posted over the many months we ttc'ed. Finally! Now, a new opportunity for anxious questions! I had a sinus infection shortly after I ovulated on the month we conceived. My family docotor noted that I had an elevated blood pressure which he assumed was related to the low grade fever (99.5) I'd been running for over a week. My normal blood pressure has always been excellent-- usually under 80/65. Two weeks later, at my first pregnancy appointment (5 weeks 5 days pregnant), my practioner also noted an elevated blood pressure-- about 120/75. She expressed some concern, but said it could be nerves. I bought a pressure monitor, and have been testing myself anywhere from 120/90 to 105/70. I am only 6 weeks pregant. Can a woman develop pregnancy related high blood pressure this early? Should I be concerned? She did find a trace of protein in my urine, too. I thought pre-eclampsia occurs later, though. Thanks for your help.
