That said, it could be that you would still be able to breastfeed, either totally or with supplementation. Being able to express colostrum would be an indicator that at least so far, things are going as they should. I would definitely want to make sure that you (1)find a pedi whose support of breastfeeding is unequivocal. THis way youknow that you are on the same team and should the time come when your pedi suggests throwing in the towel, if you know they are 100% behind you nursing, you wouldnt have lingering doubts that they are just being a naysayer. Even moms who have not had breast surgery can have difficult times breastfeeding and de disuaded to do so. PErsevering and a good support team can make all the difference in the world. (2) keep up with your lactation consultant after the birth, until supply and weight gain in baby is well established. It would be especially good if the LC is one who is experienced in dealing with moms who have had breast reduction surgery. A call to La Leche League is usually helpful, keeping in mind that they may espouse child rearing beliefs you dont agree with (or you may) but the important thing is the support and experience in breastfeeding that they can offer.
