Vanishing twin at 8wks-- any research on prognosis of surviving twin? From: Christy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 25 Feb 2002 08:30:50 -0600 (CST)
I've posted several times during this pregnancy; thanks so much for all the answers. After bleeding at 6wks, had u/s at 6w3d, saw two embryos and two heartbeats. At 8w3d, one looked like it had stopped growing at about 7wk, other measures 8w6d, still good heartbeat. They are in separate sacs; I've had no bleeding since 6wks, just a lot of cramping since 7wks, which my doctor explained is my body trying to reabsorb the dead embryo. I also had a m/c around 7wks 6 months ago, no bleeding, the sac kept growing, but the baby had died (didn't know until u/s at 10wks). This time the sac has stopped growing, at least. Is there any research on effects of vanishing twin on the surviving twin? Is it usual for the loss of one to dramatically reduce pregnancy symptoms? (I don't feel pregnany at all anymore.) Thanks for your help.
