ultrasound at 6 weeks (LMP) - questionFrom: Jane (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 19 Feb 2002 19:38:38 -0600 (CST)
Hi. My LMP was 1/9 and I believe I ovulated on day 15 (temp rise day 16). I had a positive HPT on 2/3. I've had no spotting or bleeding. I'm very anxious, because I had a chemical pregnancy last month. Yesterday I had an episode of crippling abdominal pain that lasted about 40 minutes but did resolve uneventfully after I laid down for about half an hour. Today I was well, went to work, no problems - but on my way home I had to stop the car, due to a stabbing pain that took my breath away - but which went away very quickly, definitely less than one minute duration. I thought about calling my doctor at that point but didn't. Then that pain hit me one more time at about 4 pm so I did call him. He told me to come in tomorrow for ultrasound. I got the feeling it was more for my peace of mind than any major concern on his part. I assume if he was greatly concerned (about ectopic pregnancy) he'd have me go to the ER. My question is, by my dates I should be exactly six weeks tomorrow. What should I expect to see on such an early ultrasound? Can you see a heartbeat this early - sometimes? rarely? ever? Thanks, Jane, VMD
